Joan F. Walter, 78, of Contantia passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, March 24, 2024 surrounded by her loving family.
Visitation will be held at Watson Funeral Home (631 S. Main Street Central Square, NY) on Friday, March 29, 2024 from 4:00PM to 7:00PM, with a service at 7:00PM.
Joan was born to the late Irving and Frances Teller on October 03, 1945. She graduated from Paul V. Moore High School, and worked various jobs, most notably bookkeeping for Harold’s Pharmacy in Central Square. She married Robert Walter in September of 1967 in Leesville, Louisiana.
Despite her small stature, Joan had a mighty presence. She was known for her strength of character and her feisty sense of humor. She was involved with the Ladies Auxiliary at the Constantia VFW and enjoyed her times playing cards and socializing there. She had a fondness for gambling and spent many blissful hours at the casino, especially at her favorite Joker Poker machines. When she wasn’t at the Turning Stone, she could be found playing a round of Pitch with family, or making memories with her grandchildren.
Besides her parents, she is predeceased by her brother John Teller and sisters; Pat Stethers, Bertha Deswllems, Helen Burnham and Mary Gatto.
Joan is survived by her husband of over 55 years; Robert “Bob” Walter, her children; Scott Walter and Bonnie (Frank) Merkel, her sister; Linda Ameigh, and her beloved grandchildren; Cameron, Erika, Ryan, Logan, Collin, and Logan. She will be missed dearly.
